Welcome to Ghostery, a service of The
Better Advertising Project, Inc. Ghostery helps users know what types
of automated data collection tools and technologies are in use on websites
they visit. The service, including GhostRank, helps users and the user
community to create transparency and accountability in the marketplace
for collection, use and disclosure of browsing data. For more information

The Really Big Picture
Your privacy is critically important to us. At Ghostery we have a few fundamental guiding principles:
- We don't ask you for personally identifying unless we truly need it.
- We don't share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law, develop our products, or protect our rights.
- We don't store personal information on our servers unless required for the on-going operation of one of our services.
- In our products, we aim to make it as simple as possible for you to control what's visible to the public, kept private, and permanently deleted.

Ghostery ("Ghostery") operates ghostery.com. It is Ghostery's policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our services.
This Privacy Policy covers Ghostery's treatment of personally-identifying information gathered when you use any of Ghostery's services. Personally-identifying information means any information that may be used to identify an individual, including, but not limited to, your name, home address, telephone number, and email address.
Keeping Information Secure
Ghostery takes reasonable measures necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of personally-identifying information. These include internal reviews of our data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures.
We restrict access to personal information to Ghostery employees, contractors and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve our services.
Your Ghostery account information is protected by a password for your privacy and security. If you are using a shared computer, please remember to log off once you have finished to protect against unauthorized access to your password or account.
Gathering of Personal Information
Certain users choose to interact with our services in ways where they may provide to us personally-identifying information. For example, we may operate a mailing list or newsletter that requires email address or other contact information, or certain users may provide additional information to help us diagnose service problems or develop potential enhancements. The amount and type of information that Ghostery gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. In each case, Ghostery collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the user’s interaction with Ghostery. Ghostery does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And users can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging with certain services.
Information we collect and how we use it
- Information you provide to us: We receive and store any information you enter on our website or provide to us in any other way. You can choose not to provide us with certain information, but then you may not be able to take advantage certain special features. We will not use your email address or other personally-identifying information to send commercial or marketing messages without your consent.
- Cookies: To serve you faster and with better quality, we use "cookie" technology. Cookies are small bits of code, usually stored on a user's computer hard drive, which enable a website to "personalize" itself for each user. We generally use cookies to reduce the time it takes for pages to load on your computer and to assist with user tracking.
Ghostery users who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using Ghostery's services, with the drawback that certain features of Ghostery's services may not function properly without the aid of cookies.
- Log information: Whenever you use Ghostery, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends. These server logs may include information such as your web request, data sent in response to your request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may identify your browser.
- Links: Ghostery may present links in a format that enables us to keep track of whether these links have been followed. We use this information to improve the quality of our services.
- Aggregated statistics: We may share with third parties certain pieces of aggregated, non-personal information such as the number of users who encountered a certain tracker on a particular website. Such information does not identify you individually.
Third Party Links
This Privacy Policy applies to all information that you provide to Ghostery. However, when you visit websites to which Ghostery links, you will be interacting with a third party that operates under its own privacy and security policy. If you choose to obtain certain services through a third party site, the data collected by the third party is governed by that third party's privacy policy. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any other service provider from whom you request services.
Information Sharing
Except for vendors and suppliers subject to confidentiality obligations, Ghostery only shares personal information with individuals outside of Ghostery in the following limited circumstances:
- Protection of Ghostery and Others: Ghostery does not otherwise share personal information about users with third parties unless doing so is appropriate to carry out a user’s request; or we believe that doing so is legally required; or to otherwise protect our property or legal rights or those of other entities.
- Business Transfers: : If Ghostery should ever file for bankruptcy or have its assets sold to or merged with another entity, information Ghostery receives from you, from this website, is a Ghostery asset and may be transferred.
- With Your Consent: Except as set forth above, you will be notified when your personally-identifying information may be shared with third parties or used for a purpose incompatible with the purpose(s) for which it was originally collected, and efforts will be made to obtain your consent prior to any such sharing.
Children
You must be at least 13 years old to use Ghostery. We do not knowingly collect or use personally-identifying information about visitors under 13 years of age.
International Visitors and Customers
This website is hosted in the United States. If you are visiting from
the European Union or other regions with laws governing data collection
and use that may differ from U.S. law, please note that you are transferring
your personal data to the U.S., which does not have the same data protection
laws as the EU, and by providing your personal data you consent to:
- the use of your personal data for the uses identified above in accordance with this Privacy Policy; and
- the transfer of your personal data to the U.S. as indicated above.
Privacy Policy Changes
We may occasionally update this Privacy
Policy. When we do, we will also revise the “effective date” on
the Privacy Policy. For changes to this Privacy Policy that may be materially
less restrictive on our use or disclosure of personal information you
have provided to us, we will attempt to obtain your consent before implementing
the change. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy
to stay informed about how we are protecting the personal information
we collect. Your continued use of this website constitutes your agreement
