Effective Date: August 22, 2013
Ghostery® is a free downloadable browser extension that helps you to see what companies are tracking you (“Trackers”) on any given website. With this information you can learn more about these Trackers and therefore exercise personal control over this activity. Ghostery does not collect any information about you like your name, address, email address or the like. We don’t want that information. We will tell you more about what we DO collect later in this Privacy Statement. But know this: We don’t track you, that isn’t what we do. We don’t know who you are when you download Ghostery. And now for lawyer stuff.
Ghostery users can opt-in to be on a volunteer panel called “GhostRank”. The only way to be in GhostRank is to affirmatively opt-in as part of the Ghostery download process, or by selecting to participate via Ghostery’s options page. When you opt-in to GhostRank, you allow Ghostery to find and catalogue any trackers that may appear as your browser traverses the Internet. Ghostery collects and send the following anonymous information to Evidon each time a tracker is encountered: the tracker identified by Ghostery, the blocking status of the tracker, domains identified as serving trackers, the time it take for the page and the tracker to load, the tracker’s position on the page, the browser in which Ghostery has been installed, and standard web server log information like your web request, the data sent in response to that request, the browser type, the browser language, and a timestamp for the request. The information we gather is about tracking elements only (we find out and inform you who is tracking you on the Internet), and is never about individuals who encountered those trackers. We don’t collect any data that can be used to target advertising or identify our users who participate in GhostRank, nor do we target our GhostRank panel members for advertising. In fact, while our web servers receive the IP addresses of GhostRank users, we do not even store these IP addresses on any servers. The data we collect helps us to bolster and improve the Ghostery service by expanding our code library to reveal more tracking information to our user, to increase our tracker intelligence, and to improve our products and solutions for businesses. Users can change their participation in GhostRank at any time.
When you download or use Ghostery, we may collect basic data in server logs, like your web request, the data sent in response to that request, the Internet Protocol (IP) address, the browser type, the browser language, and a timestamp for the request. This information is used to maintain the functionality of the Website, to count the number of Ghostery downloads, and, generally, to improve the product. We do not take any action toward you directly, such as contacting you when there is a Ghostery update. That is done through our general blog, newsletter, or through the respective browsers, which will speak directly to the Ghostery application.
No data transmissions over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us. You do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make commercially reasonable efforts to ensure that physical, administrative and technical safeguards are in place to protect the security of our systems and information. However, please note that this is not a guarantee that such systems or information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of such measures.
GhostRank data shared with businesses never includes data about you. To learn more about the data that GhostRank collects, click here.
We reserve the right to disclose any information as required by law, or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on us, or to protect the safety of a third person.
If Evidon should ever file for bankruptcy, or have its assets sold to or merged with another entity, information Evidon receives from you, from the Website, is an Evidon asset and may be transferred.
We may occasionally update this Privacy Statement. When we do, we will also revise the "Effective Date" at the top of the Privacy Statement. For changes to this Privacy Statement that may be materially less restrictive on our use or disclosure of any information you have provided to us, we will notify you by the posting of the revised Privacy Statement. We’ll make reasonable efforts to notify our users on our blog and through social media, but we won’t have any other way of notifying you. That means it is your responsibility to periodically review this Privacy Statement to stay informed about our information practices. Your continued use of the Website and Ghostery constitute your agreement to this Privacy Statement and any revisions or updates.
To access your information, ask questions about our information practices, to make comments or to share concerns regarding Evidon’s information practices as they pertain to Ghostery or the Website, you can mail us at the address found below or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
