Ghostery / Firefox Outage

May 5, 2019By Ghostery Team

Hey there Ghosterians!

Recently, all add-ons within Firefox were disabled. This is a bug on Firefox’s end and has affected all add-ons; including Ghostery. There is a 66.0.4 patch coming from Mozilla at some point soon to fix this issue. To reap the benefits of this as soon as it is released you can set Firefox to auto update in settings.

As a temporary work around, you can enable Studies in Firefox to bring back your add-ons. Here are the directions to do this, straight from Mozilla:

“In order to be able to provide this fix on short notice, we are using the Studies system. You can check if you have studies enabled by going to Firefox Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox Data Collection and Use -> Allow Firefox to install and run studies.”

Here is a reference link from Mozilla regarding the bug: https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/certificate-issue-causing-add-ons-to-be-disabled-or-fail-to-install/39047

Some users are seeing addons restored after restarting their browser. This may mean that Mozilla is doing a slow roll-out of the patch, but others have not seen this update.

Let us know if you have any further questions, and thanks for using Ghostery!

Best,
